Colossians [Day 2]

Walking Worthily
Have you ever felt like you're underqualified? I know this is something I've struggled with many times over; especially when trying something new or even when I feel like I made a mistake. But see, one of the million and one things that beautiful and comforting about our Lord God, is that He doesn't ever make us feel like that, let alone stay in that mindset.
Our Heavenly Father, is so good to us that He gives us everything that we need, to know Him, to know who He created us to be, to uncover His will for our lives, and to walk worthily of Him so that our lives are complete and satisfying. Even when we make a mistake or step outside our comfort zone, our Lord God is right there with us, encouraging us, edifying us, and guiding us through it.
Let's get into the breakdown to see what goodness God has for us today.
For Day 1, we broke down Colossians 1:9; I've included it again today for context on what the following verse is a continuation of:
'For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God' Colossians 1:9-10 NIV
For this reason, since the day we heard about it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking [specifically] that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [with insight into His purposes], and in understanding [of spiritual things], so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]; Colossians 1:9-10 AMP
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. Colossians 1:9-10 NLT
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:9-10 NKJV
For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, Colossians 1:9-10 AMP
The first thing that sticks out to me is that this verse tells us that it's possible for us to walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him! Just as we discussed yesterday about this being a powerful and beautiful prayer; the power lies in what happens when we submit to God, pray this prayer, and receive what God has for us. When we understand God's will for our lives, it becomes the only thing that truly matters because nothing can stop us, nothing can take God's will or His love away from us; we are unstoppable when we're in the will of God.
So let our entire confidence rest securely in that. Let our hearts remain in peace and at rest, knowing that our Lord God will cover us and protect us according to His perfect will. Praise God!
The verse also says, as we receive God's will with spiritual wisdom and understanding, we would begin to bear fruit in everything that we do within the will of God; so not only would be blessed in all that we do, but we'd be a blessing to others in all that we do, spreading love and joy wherever we go!
Walking worthily also looks like us growing in the knowledge of our Lord God, each and every day so our minds can be fixed on Him, transformed through His power, and we can become more like Him. Our minds and hearts will then begin to be centered completely on Lord Jesus, Who is unmoving, unshakable, our anchor to the ground; allowing us to be free to live out the best versions of ourselves in His love.
- Challenge -
Pray the prayer in these verses (feel free to include the rest of the verses in this chapter as well.) Ask God to reveal to you the things that are from Him and the things that are not. If you're so bold, ask God to remove the things that are not from Him to make room for God to make a way for all that is within His will for your life.
This prayer is beautiful but also quite dangerous; in the way that sometimes the removal of the things that are not of God can be painful and very difficult. But I can testify completely to this prayer always being worth it in the long run.
God will always walk with us through our times of difficulties. He will never leave us alone in them. And His will is indescribably better in all ways, even more than anything we can imagine; so even if it hurts for a little while, the pain will be nothing compared to the growth and love we receive afterwards.
- Closing Prayer -
Father God, I thank You for You are so good. I thank You for Your word and for the light that shines within each of our hearts; that guides us and steers us closer and closer to You. I thank You Lord God for Your love and for the process of transformation in each of us. I thank You for who You are, and who we are becoming because of You, Lord God. I thank You for Your faithfulness no matter what our circumstances may be. I thank You for being our anchor, the One we can trust in through it all.
Lord God, I pray for Your will to be revealed to each of us, for every area that we have submitted to You. I pray for the areas that haven't been submitted to You to also be revealed to us, so that we can invite the Holy Spirit to touch upon them and create in us a new heart. I pray for our hearts to receive Your peace, as we lay down our burdens. I pray for us to receive Your grace as we ask You for forgiveness of our sins, and as we also forgive others. I pray for the wisdom and understanding to be granted to each of us to discern the season and allow us to walk worthily in Your sight Lord God.
Father God, I pray that all that is not of You to be removed, and all that is of You to be revealed so that we may receive all that You have for us. For Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and Your ways are better than our ways, Lord God. May we all receive more knowledge of You, and who You are so that we may grow in our faith, and grow to become more and more like You.
In Christ Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
